Student Leadership Services, Inc.

“Cutting Edge and Appropriate Youth-Led Prevention for 25 Years!”Student Leadership Services, Inc. has been “Cutting Edge Youth-Led Prevention” for 25 years.  SLS has provided “Cutting Edge Prevention Strategies, Youth-Led Chapter Activities, Support, Resources, and Substance Abuse Education” for Michigan Youth since 1982.  The most important thing that SLS has offered Michigan Youth is youth interaction and youth engagement opportunities.  How do we know if what SLS does works?  Besides having the highest Evaluation score from High/Scope Educational Resource Foundation in 2006?  Well, SLS has an alumni volunteer support system of more than 300 college students and professionals.  These energetic SLS alumni volunteers were involved in SLS opportunities when they were in middle school and high school. Now they help SLS fulfill our commitment to today’s youth.

For 25 years, SLS programming/curriculum has been based on Exemplary and Model Programs of the U.S. Department of Education, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), National Institute for Drug Education (NIDA), Michigan Department of Education, Project Alert, Project Northland, Search Institute 40 Developmental Assets, Botvin's Life Skills, High/Scope Youth Development Training, other researchers and youth development experts.  Botvin was one of the first to prove that skills training is where it starts for prevention.  All of SLS trainings, workshops, conferences and events build skills in youth- with youth training youth.  Building skills, such as life skills, is the first step in substance abuse prevention implemented by SLS.

2006: SLS was evaluated by High/Scope.  SLS scored the "best " of 90 youth programs in Michigan.   Call SLS for a copy of the High/Scope evaluation report.

"SLS uses dynamic, exciting and attention grabbing ways to present information.  They know how to break the ice and get students to work together.  Their techniques truly show an extraordinary transformation in the students which create a tremendous climate change for the students and the entire school building."
