SAMHSA Service to Science Award 2011-2012 to SLS...Congratulations!
The SLS SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) Service to Science Award offers the opportunity to 12 SLS High School Chapters to participate in a Chapter Valdation Study. SLS has selected experienced SLS Model Programs, SLS Chapters that have thrived for 27 years, and fledgling SLS Chapters to participate. Look for chapter updates in 2012 on this validating project.

Tell your story to Michigan legislators, the Governor, Secretary of State and be the voice of Michigan youth. Be the leader of the award winning student-led SLS chapter network. Host the 27th Annual State Conference, develop the 30th Anniversary documentary and train your peers to be leaders.
Students and advisors of health and safety initiatives turn to Student Leadership Services, Inc. (SLS) for support and trainings. SLS is a Michigan non-profit that fosters peer influence. SLS trainings, events and service projects demonstrate student leadership.
SLS and Health Initiative school-based groups believe that:
The use of alcohol and other drugs is self-defeating.
Driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs endangers lives.
Distracted driving endangers lives.
We endanger our lives when we ride in a vehicle with a reckless or drug affected driver.
Our actions and attitudes have a significant effect on creating positive change.
For 30 years, SLS programming/curriculum has been based on Exemplary and Model Programs of the U.S. Department of Education, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), National Institute for Drug Education (NIDA), Michigan Department of Education, Project Alert, Project Northland, Search Institute 40 Developmental Assets, Botvin's Life Skills, High/Scope Youth Development Training, other researchers and youth development experts.
