Health Initiatives Led by Youth since 1982!

Students and advisors of health and safety initiatives turn to Student Leadership Services, Inc. (SLS) for support and trainings.  SLS is a Michigan non-profit that fosters peer influence.  SLS trainings, events and service projects demonstrate student leadership.

SLS and Health Initiative school-based groups believe that:
  • The use of alcohol and other drugs is self-defeating.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs endangers lives.
  • Distracted driving endangers lives.
  • We endanger our lives when we ride in a vehicle with a reckless or drug affected driver.
  • Our actions and attitudes have a significant effect on creating positive change.

For 31 years, SLS programming/curriculum has been based on Exemplary and Model Programs of the U.S. Department of Education, Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP), National Institute for Drug Education (NIDA), Michigan Department of Education, Project Alert, Project Northland, Search Institute 40 Developmental Assets, Botvin's Life Skills, High/Scope Youth Development Training, other researchers and youth development experts.
