"Open Door Policy" Parent and Teen Workshop a Success!

On March 19, 2009 seventeen students and their parents at Hoover Middle School (Taylor, MI) participated in a family night.  Families participated in a refusal skills workshop.  Dawn Flood of Student Leadership Services modeled a variety of strategies to help families communicate.  The strategies included working together to reach a goal, brainstorm situations for a specific topic, role playing, and a five step system to help master your refusal skills.

It was great to see parents and students working together to better understand the many pressures each one goes through on a daily basis.  The workshop gave them new tools to help communicate not only with each other but with anyone in their life.
